When studying at university, it is important to have basic mathematical concepts up to date and to have some skill in handling mathematical expressions and symbols. This book is designed to facilitate the repetition and acquisition of knowledge of important mathematical elements. Most of these are normally included in primary and secondary school mathematics courses. The concepts covered in this heavily revised edition of the book include general numeracy, equations, polynomials, roots, inequalities, powers and logarithms, trigonometry, graphing, derivatives, integrals and complex numbers.
The material is structured around short reviews and examples accompanied by exercises. The vast majority of chapters end, as does the whole book, with mixed exercises. The structure of the book makes it suitable for both teacher-led classes and self-study.
The book has been used for many years as revision material for university studies at several of the country's universities and colleges. It has also been widely used for self-study in various types of competence development.
The authors, all of whom have been active at Lulea University of Technology for many years, have long experience of producing teaching materials and teaching at different levels. All are known as good teachers and have received various awards for their teaching skills.
